How to wire the modules
Two scenarios depending on the circuit power.
Direct wiring
Circuit ≤ 16A (3680W)
The simplest and most common wiring. The module sits between the breaker and the appliance. Suitable for most residential circuits.
Wiring with contactor
Circuit > 16A (3680W)
Required for any circuit exceeding 16A / 3680W. The Powtiva module controls the contactor coil, which handles the power current.
When to use a power contactor?
The Powtiva load shedding module is limited to 16A (3680W at 230V). A power contactor is essential for higher-power appliances.
- Circuit ≤ 16A (3680W): direct wiring, no contactor needed
- Circuit > 16A (3680W): contactor required (e.g. Legrand 412501, Hager ESC225, Schneider CT 25A)
- Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable standards
